  • You've hit a good point there talking about habits. It's that too. Habits, subjectiveness and personal preference. That's what I reckon it's all about! And my main habit is to approach a computer like a man sneaking up on a cat - with both hands out and open and ready to grab. Therefore, with my lefty always being near the control button, I'll have to completely break my approach to become a pure two button user. That said, and in answer to your question about getting use to it... last night at a friends house with a one button mouse, I kept searching for the scroll wheel AND did try once or twice to correct my spelling with a right click. So we'll see where this goes / how bad it gets!

  • Ahha! Forgot to mention 'control click' - the 'right click' of the Mac. Once again, my left hand and thumb hover constantly over the Apple key area so all right click benefits are there (to edit a picture in photoshop, just control click on it and go to “edit with photoshop) Having a right click button when you have a perfectly functioning control key is frivolously duplicating functionality (again that is for the most part when I'm not eating a sandwich and have two available hands). But I must to say that your idea of even more buttons just for copy and paste is ludicrous. Come on - Apple C Apple V could not be easier. I dunno. It's all just personal preference again I suppose. It just makes sense to me to have one hand operating 79 buttons (on my PowerBook anyway) and the other in charge of moving and selecting... oh no... hold on... I might have just convinced myself I don't even need a 1 button mouse. Interesting. Finally, on the fact I wouldn't buy a multi-button mouse based on the fact they look bad... well yeah. But I still say the MM works well, so it's not all form over function. Well OK then - I do have a little bias toward design - but I'm a designer so what do you expect. I buy trousers/pants that suite me and look nice, not ugly 'functional' ones with 50 cargo pockets incase I ever need to carry cargo. And I'll buy 1 neat 5" Global cook's knife - http://www.chefknivestogo.com/5incookknif.html - instead of an over the top and boring looking 23 piece Messermeister set - http://www.chefknivestogo.com/meme23pcblse.html - because in all honesty I believe there's just no real need for a 6" offset bread knife! Sorry. Again I digress.

  • Sorry to butt back in, but I just wanted to make my poorly written point a little clearer. One button has always worked fine for me - I only wanted 2 for when my left hand was busy - and I love a scroll wheel purely because it makes web browsing s bit easier. Basically though I see any more than one button as an occasional lazy luxury. Whenever I'm using a Mac properly, with one hand over the keyboard and the other on the mouse, I have so many quick keys at my disposal that the benefit of one or two extra buttons at my right hand becomes almost redundant, especially when they require clicking followed by selecting from a list, then and clicking again - sorry - to slow. Right click Scroll down select copy Click copy Right click Scroll down select paste Click paste Zzzzzzz. Apple C Apple V Kerpow. But makken, you do make one point I strongly agree with - it is subjective. And with such subjectivity in mind, yes, I am saying I want a mouse that "looks nice" and I like the look of the Mighty. Also in all honestly I find the Mighty Mouse easy to use. Seriously! I can't quite believe some of the complaints in this tread about it being difficult. I must be really clever or something! But, if you disagree, then that's your prerogative. ... It's at this point when people agree to disagree that I feel lost about what to do next... normally though I either walk away slowly or change the subject... The other day I had a hire car with a stereo remote on the steering wheel. It had an effective 5 buttons and a scroll wheel. At first I though it was rubbish, but after about 20 miles I was using it like a limb. It was lovely. Same UK radio sucks. And that reminds me of when I was younger and had a walkman with a remote. One button, half way up the cable. Hit it once - Play. Hit it again - Stop. Hit it 2 times while playing - Fast-forward. 3 times - Rewind. Hold it down - Auto reverse. In the end the headphones broke and I never found the same model again. The end.

  • I've been a Mac user for years and have always managed perfectly with a one button mouse. In the past I've berated many a PC users for so desperately needing two buttons and nearly killed a man with an 8 button mouse... I mean... WHY? But, I'm getting old. Yes, I know more short cuts than PC has viruses, but there comes a time when I'm eating my lunch that my apply key hand as to hold my sandwich and I can't open links in new tabs. Then there are times that I'm artwork away, nearly nodding off (chin resting gently on fist) that copying and pasting does interrupt my doze and annoy me terribly. And finally there are the moments of weakness that I wish, oh how I wish, I didn't have to grab and drag that scroll bar, far far away on the other side of the screen. So a while back, while out shopping for slippers, incontinent pants and a Saga holiday for my twilight years, I took a look at what the mouse market had to offer... Nothing. Just a load disgusting cumbersome ugly over the top and over prices lumps of gray and blue plastic. So when the other day my lazy ass wishes were answered by Apple, I bought a Mighty Mouse instantly... And it bloody rocks. It does just what I want, with all the grace of any Mac product. And, I must be younger than I thought, because I can operate it flawlessly, unlike the obviously non-dextrous monkeys above, who find it difficult. But then, fair enough I suppose, having no opposable thumbs can't be easy life. Seriously though - It works well and looks better than anything else on the market.
