Introduced: January 2006
Terminated: September 2006

Description

The iMac (Early 2006) ushered in the Intel processor to the Mac line.  The Intel Core Duo processor had two processor cores on the same chip.  The iMac (Early 2006) was available in two configurations.  The 17” configuration had a 1.83Ghz Core Duo processor.  The 20” configuration had a 2.0Ghz Core Duo processor.  Both configurations had an 8x SuperDrive.  AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth were standard.

History

The introduction of the Intel chip to the Mac line marked a turning point for Apple.  The new iMacs were much faster than the previous iMac models.  They had better graphics and a mini-DVI port.  Additionally, the ability to run Windows natively on a Mac for the first time was a major selling point for many new buyers.

The 17” model was $1,299 and the 20” model was $1699.
