Accurately Predict September 9th, Win a Speck CandyShell Case and Apple Matters’ Interview

by Meiera Stern Sep 01, 2009

With Apple's much anticipated Press Event just over a week away, the technorati are bending over backwards for a scoop of what Apple has in store for its faithful. The consensus thus far is that September 9th will be a day of incremental improvements including a new version of iTunes with social networking features, and other tweaks to iPods in hopes of extending the MP3 market, before a January release of the fabled Tablet. However, there are consenting voices who think that the Tablet will make its appearance. Of course, no one knows for sure if the Tablet is anything but smoke and mirrors magnified by rumor-hungry bloggers and journalists. But the suspense is fairly killing us at Apple Matters, and we are wondering if any of you are psychic. Will Steve speak? What other wonders will be unveiled?

The event to watch will be at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10am West Coast Time, on Wednesday the 9th.

The person who gets closest to the truth of what Apple will reveal will win a black CandyShell iPhone/iPod Touch Case, and we will post a story about the author of the winning entry.

Contest Rules:

1. Post your conjectures in the comments section below.

2. One entry per person.

3. The contest will end at 9am Pacific Standard Time (USA) on September 9th, an hour before the event will start.

May the best guesser win!

  • Hey, don’t all speak at once. smile Beeblebrox, I think you’re right on! Does anyone else have an opinion? I could offer you an Apple Tablet instead of a Speck case, but these are tough times, and our comp Tablet was stolen by the Apple Matters unicorn.

  • They will add still and video cameras to the iPod Touch and a still camera to the iPod Nano. They will announce that the Beatles albums, but not individual songs will be coming to the iTunes store.

  • 1. Cameras for the iPod Touch & Nano: the former gets video (a la iPhone), while the latter only a still. Slight price drop to stay price competitive with the upcoming Zune HD.
    2. iPod Classic remains alive. Usual storage bump and modest price drop.
    3. iPod Shuffle gets another redesign (to placate all the whiners that don’t like the super simple current design).
    4. iTunes 9 available immediately/soon with Social Networking tools finally available. Also Cocktail debuts. And while the Beatles 2nd remastering is available, no mention at the event beyond the availability on iTMS and others.
    5. No Steve Jobs keynote.

  • I can’t believe I won! Of course, there weren’t that many entries. I also couldn’t believe that the iPod Touch didn’t receive a camera like the Nano. Days later, I understand Apple’s move. I don’t agree with, nor like it, but I understand it. And I doubt glitches are the reason. Jobs, et al simply want to differentiate the iPod lineup while not cannibalizing iPhone sales. A Touch with a camera would get many to forget about the iPhone.
